少年的100小时社会初体验:经历了一场策展之后,想做艺术家的女孩找到了一条新航路!

认识世界的广度和深度,而后校正内心的“罗盘”,鼓起勇气,向着心中的理想无畏前行…….是启明星期待学生们参加实习项目之后,能够拥有的状态。


很开心,10年级的郭千睿(Halley)在暑期实习结束,不但坚定了中学毕业后继续深造艺术的决定,也拓宽了视野,找到一条可能的“新航路”——


她的“新航路”是什么?让我们来看Halley的故事吧:


艺术品的商业化运营就是Halley的新航路,是她在暑期实习最大的收获之一。对于正在经历一生只有一次的成长的Halley来说,这样的启发弥足珍贵:

 

#01  动念


很多学生选择艺术作为出国深造的方向,但在享受艺术给予的创作和发挥的自由同时,也容易因为这样的“无界感”,而对现实世界当中的艺术产生似是而非的印象。

 

类似的,Halley一早确定了高中毕业后要走艺术这条路,却在实习开始之前,从未真正考虑过艺术的另一面——可以商业化操作。

 

大学升学顾问Melissa和其他实习项目的老师希望给予Halley一个完整的、诚恳面对自己兴趣的机会,就为她安排了前往白瑞空间为期一个月的实习。

 

白瑞空间是国内数一数二的经营金属和首饰艺术品的艺术空间,在业内非常前沿。Halley在这里初次接触到金属艺术品领域,还帮忙布置了《和珍物语》展览,经历了展览运营的全过程。

 


 “展览第一天,来了好多人……过了几天,参观的人慢慢少了。有时候,来看展的人甚至根本不能理解这些艺术,可这些都是很好的艺术品啊…….艺术家真的需要走出去,不能只是呆在象牙塔里……我想,我可以做一个鉴赏家,或者办一个这样的画廊,去帮助一些艺术家售卖他们的作品…….” Halley回忆说。


“浸入”展览运营的全过程让她强烈意识到艺术品商业化运营的一面,也促使她开始动念在艺术品的产业化链条中做些什么。


不只如此,对于Halley而言,看到艺术的不同面向,拓宽职业发展思路的同时,更为重要的,是启发她看待任何事物都要意识到不同的面向,采用审辨的思维,进而形成对他人、对世界更为完善、真实,也更为宽容的认知和理解。

 

#02  梳理

 

除了专业方向的思考之外,Halley还有很多其他感触:

 

比如沟通技巧——“和不同年龄段的人沟通,我要用不同的方式……另外我也发现,要通过很多原来从没听说过的平台宣传、推介这些展品,用不同的话术去触动对艺术品有不同诉求的人群!”

 

比如时间管理——实习同时,Halley也在参加其他课程,怎样几方兼顾又不打乱假期一张一弛的节奏?在白瑞,如何安排计划让想做的一切都能按部就班?


比如情绪管理——展览刚开始的几天,参观的人不少,慢慢的,人流量不稳定了,Halley觉得不太高兴;加上工作中的重复动作,起初的新鲜感也在降低。怎样调整心理期待与现实之间的距离,如何保持正面、积极的心态?

……

 

面对这么多的感受和体会,为了引导Halley的反思不至于多而散乱,作为实习督导的Darcy老师定期到访和引导Halley梳理、消化信息,解答她观察到现实和之间的困惑,当然,这样的辅导也提供给其他几位参加实习的学生。

 


在“做”中学的体验,让成长扎扎实实沉淀在Halley的心中,丰富了她的经历,有助于未来大学申请,也帮助她再次确认了专业兴趣,拓宽了眼界和思路——这是启明星实习项目的目标,更是启明星教育的应有之义!

  

A student’s encounter with the world reveals its breadth and depth and leads to a change in their inner compass, pushing them to approach their dream with newfound boldness. This is the mental process that most students at Daystar Academy are expected to go through over the course of their internship journeys.


We are so glad to see that at the end of the summer internship, Halley not only strengthened her resolve to pursue art after graduating from high school, but also broadened her horizon and allowed her to find a new possible trajectory for her life.


So what exactly is her “new trajectory”? Let’s find out by reading her internship story.


For Halley, one of the biggest rewards from her summer internship was gaining a deeper understanding of the commercial operation of the art industry, inspiring her to follow a new trajectory in the form of becoming an artist. Such inspiration is a “once in a lifetime” growth experience that is tremendously valuable for Halley.


#01 Being inspired


Many students choose art as their area of focus when studying abroad. Although students may enjoy the pleasure of free artistic creation, that boundlessness may cause them to form an inaccurate impression of art as it exists in the real world.

 

Like many of her peers, Halley determined early on that she would study art after graduating from high school. However, she never thought about the possible commercial aspects of art until starting this summer internship.

 

In hopes of creating an opportunity for Halley to truly recognize and come face to face with her own interests, Melissa, the college counselor, and other teachers involved with Daystar Academy’s internship program arranged a one-month internship for Halley at B.R. Gallery.

 

B.R. Gallery is one of the greatest and most avant-garde domestic art spaces for metal and jewelry works of art. This space offered Halley her first contact with the field of metal arts. During the internship, an opportunity to arrange a themed exhibition allowed her to witness the whole process involved in running an exhibition.


“A lot of people came to visit the exhibition on the first day... Several days later, the number of visitors declined. Some visitors did not understand the art being exhibited at all, but these are really splendid works of art... Artists really need to leave their Ivory Tower... I think I can be a connoisseur or a curator of an art gallery to help artists sell their art pieces...,” Halley reflected.


Getting emerged in the whole process of exhibition operation not only greatly heightened Halley’s awareness of art’s commercial aspect, but also pushed her to ponder on what she could do in the industrial chain of artworks.


Actually for Halley, while seeing different aspects of art and broadening her career development ideas, it is more important to inspire her to be aware of different aspects of everything and adopt critical thinking, so as to form a more complete, real and tolerant cognition and understanding of others and the world.


#02  Reflection


Apart from being inspired by the commercial aspect of art, Halley also learned a great deal in other ways.

 

For example, she improved her communication skills. “I learned that we should use different ways to communicate with people of different ages... I also found that we could use some platforms that many people haven’t heard of to promote these exhibits. In addition, we could also try different communication techniques to touch people who have different artistic demands,” said Halley.

 

Halley’s time management skills were also greatly enhanced. During summer vacation, Halley was not only responsible for her internship, but also had several extracurricular courses to attend. She thus was confronted with the question of how to strike a balance between different tasks to avoid burn out? In terms of her internship at B.R., she had to come up with feasible plans to ensure everything flows smoothly. These are some of the questions Halley faced during her internship.


Halley also improved her emotional management. In the first few days of the exhibition, there were a lot of visitors, but gradually, the visitor flow became unstable, which made Halley unhappy. As there were many repetitive processes in work, Halley started to lose the sense of newness she had in the beginning of internship. So how to strike a balance between expectation and reality, and maintain a positive mentality?

In the face of so many feelings and experiences, in order to guide Halley to conduct reflection in an orderly way, Mr. Darcy, the internship supervisor, visited Halley regularly and guided her to sort out and digest the information and solve the confusion between the ideal and the reality she observed. Of course, such guidance was also provided to the other students who participated in the internship.



Learning through practice enabled Halley to achieve steady growth and has enriched her learning experience, which will prove beneficial as she applies to her dream universities in the future. Undoubtedly, the internship helped Halley find her genuine interest, expand her horizons, and clarify her ideas for self-development. These changes are precisely what the Daystar Internship Program aims to achieve and are integral components of the Daystar educational philosophy.
